Why doubt can be a good sign
I used to think doubt meant I wasn’t ready.
Not good enough. Not the right person. Not quite there yet.
I’ve changed my mind about that.
Doubt doesn’t usually show up around things that don’t matter. You don’t doubt your ability to answer a routine email or take out the trash.
Doubt shows up around the conversation you’ve been avoiding. The opportunity that scares you a little. The change you know needs to happen.
That’s not a stop sign.
That’s a signal.
Here’s what I’ve learned about what doubt is often telling you.
1. The outcome matters.
You care about this one. That does not make you unqualified. It may mean the result matters enough to get your attention.
2. You need to decide who you will be.
This connects directly to the first of the Three Decisions:
Who will I be today?
Doubt often shows up when the moment asks for more courage, patience, discipline, or honesty than feels comfortable.
3. There is a next action to take.
That is the third decision:
What will I do today?
Make the call. Write the first paragraph. Ask the question. Take the next visible step.
Doubt doesn’t need to disappear before you move. It just needs to stop driving.
Doubt is not proof you should stop.
Sometimes it is a sign you are standing in front of something hard, meaningful, and more possible than it feels.
So let me ask: What is your doubt telling you right now?
